At level 15+, find Tig Pebblebank at the Sungreet Strand quarry and work through the opening dialogue.

Reach level 15+.
Find Tig Pebblebank at the Sungreet Strand quarry.
Hail Tig.
Say “What delays?”
Say “What measurements?”
Say “I am interested in being your apprentice.”
Details — exact dialogue & /say prompts
/hail
You say, “Hail, Tig Pebblebank.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “No, Mr. Brookturner. Give me a moment and I'll help you look for it.”
Tig Pebblebank sighs, looking visibly stressed.
Tig Pebblebank says, “What? Oh! Hi there. I'm Lead Measurer Tig Pebblebank.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “I'm sorry about all that. We've been really behind lately with all the delays.”
/say What delays?
Tig Pebblebank says, “Don't get me started. The foreman should have secured the site, and our camp should have been set up days ago.”
Tig Pebblebank shakes her head.
Tig Pebblebank says, “Safety is a high priority for us, we must be allowed to do our delicate work unhindered!”
Tig Pebblebank says, “Now, I must check our equipment and send word to the Church of Trem about what's missing. Someone else will have to take the measurements... there's just too much to do.”
/say What measurements?
Tig Pebblebank says, “Part of our charter as representatives of the Measure is to map an exact layout of the quarry. It's a complicated process to complete, but it starts off simple enough.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “First we find the surface area of the plot for the purchase records, then we measure the overall volume to determine how much stone has already been excavated.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “If I weren't so busy, I'd make these measurements myself, but...”
Tig Pebblebank sighs.
Tig Pebblebank says, “If only I had an apprentice...”
/say I am interested in being your apprentice.
Wiki note: If you are below level 15, the conversation stops here. The source page says the lower-level dialogue still needs documentation.

Accept Tig's field commission, take the oath, and receive the Lead Disk of the Apprentice.

Say “I am willing.”
Listen to the full oath.
Say “I do.”
Receive Lead Disk of the Apprentice.
Get the rope assignment: ten hemp ropes, fifty length each.
Details — oath dialogue
Tig Pebblebank says, “You're interested? I could field commission you as an apprentice in service of the Measure. It would be an official errand!”
Tig Pebblebank stares into your eyes intently, as if searching for something.
Tig Pebblebank says, “There's one condition though... it would require you to take an oath. Are you willing?”
Tig Pebblebank says, “If so, I'll swear you in and you can get started immediately. You'll be paid, of course, as befitting a junior member of the Measure.”
/say I am willing.
Tig Pebblebank says, “Good! Then place your hand over your coin purse. Yes, just like so.”
Tig Pebblebank places her hand over her coin purse.
Tig Pebblebank says, “Do you, by the stars that guide us and the sands beneath our feet, under the watchful eye of Trem, god of trade and tradesmen alike, pledge your time and work to the Guild of the Measure?”
Tig Pebblebank says, “Do you promise to chart the unknown with clarity and precision, mark the borders, and endeavor to uncover the secrets of the land?”
Tig Pebblebank says, “Do you vow to uphold the truth in all your measurements, honor the trust placed in you, and serve with diligence and integrity?”
Tig Pebblebank says, “Do you swear, as long as the sun rises and sets, and by the grace of Trem, to remain steadfast and true, to become a beacon of knowledge, and a protective curator of all tools loaned to you for an assigned task?”
Tig Pebblebank smiles and raises her eyebrows.
Tig Pebblebank says, “This is the part where you say I do.”
/say I do.
Tig Pebblebank says, “With this oath, I bind your spirit to the Measure and the service of Trem, for now and forever, until the terms of your commission have ended.”
Tig Pebblebank presents you with a metal disk.
You receive Lead Disk of the Apprentice.
Tig Pebblebank says, “This disk represents your apprenticeship with the Measure. You'll make good use of it, I'm sure.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “Alright then, that's settled. For your task, I have just about everything you need, with the exception of rope.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “Go to Night Harbor and visit the Night Market. There's a general store there owned by Sproggets Bedsprings. Tell him I sent you.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “We need ten hemp ropes at fifty length each. He should have it in stock. Bring me the ropes and we'll get started.”

Go to Night Harbor's Night Market, speak with Sproggets Bedsprings, then hand him exactly 2 silver.

Travel to Night Harbor → Night Market.
Find Sproggets Bedsprings in the building just left when entering from West Gate.
Say “Tig Pebblebank sent me.”
Say “She needs rope.”
Hand Sproggets 2 silver directly — do not buy rope from his merchant inventory.
Receive Small Field Pack of Ropes.
Details — Sproggets dialogue & hand-in
Location: Inside one of the buildings just to the left as you enter the Night Market from West Gate.
Sproggets Bedsprings says, “Heyo! Looking to get into some adventuring? Take a look at my wares.”
/say Tig Pebblebank sent me.
Sproggets Bedsprings says, “Oh she did, did she? What does she want this time?”
/say She needs rope.
Sproggets Bedsprings says, “Rope you say. Well, I do have rope for sale, but I'm guessing you're seeking the Guild of the Measurer's standard discount.”
Sproggets Bedsprings says, “Fine. Two silver coin and you can have ten ropes of fifty length. I'll even throw in a small field pack to carry them in.”
Sproggets Bedsprings says, “Just give me the coin when you're ready. I'll set them aside until you return.”
IMPORTANT: Do not purchase rope from Sproggets' merchant window. Take 2 silver from your inventory and hand it directly to him.
Sproggets Bedsprings says, “Good doing business with you! May Trem's fortune find you.”
Sproggets Bedsprings retrieves a small field pack from behind the counter and hands it to you.
You receive Small Field Pack of Ropes.

Return to Tig, hand over the rope pack, then tell her you are ready.

Return to Tig Pebblebank in Sungreet Strand.
Hand Tig the Small Field Pack of Ropes.
Receive Rope, Knotted, 500 Length.
Make room in your inventory.
Say “I am ready.”
Receive Tig's Survey Form, The Joy of Surveying, and Advanced Surveying Volume I.
Details — exact dialogue & received items
Tig Pebblebank says, “Excellent! Let me prepare the rope for you.”
Tig pulls out the ropes one by one and ties them together end to end, creating one long rope.
Tig stretches the rope from foot to head, marking it with knots, and repeats the process until she reaches the end.
Tig Pebblebank says, “Here you go. One knotted rope at about five hundred length. This should be long enough to do the job.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “Now, make some room in your pack because there's quite a few items you'll need for the task. Let me know when you're ready!”
You receive Rope, Knotted, 500 Length.
/say I am ready.
Tig Pebblebank says, “Good! Here's the survey form to fill out. Use your apprentice disk to mark down any measurements you've taken.”
You receive Tig's Survey Form.
Tig Pebblebank says, “Also, this is a surveying book written by yours truly. You'll find it useful.”
You receive The Joy of Surveying.
Tig Pebblebank says, “And here's an advanced book on surveying.”
You receive Advanced Surveying Volume I.
Tig Pebblebank says, “I know this is a lot of information, but I believe in you. You're also the only one who can do this right now... so there's that too. In Trem we trust, as I guess we must!”
Tig Pebblebank says, “For your first task, you'll need to find the surface area of the quarry. The books cover this, so I wont bore you with the details.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “Seek out the markers at the quarry. They've got bright green cloths on them so they should be easy to see, but you might need to take a closer look to see the numbers on them.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “Look for marker number one. Secure one end of the rope there, then stretch it all the way to marker two.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “Take the first measurement and bring it back to me to check your work.”

Measure the first quarry dimension. Current source value: 240.

Read The Joy of Surveying for the piton/measurement mechanics.
Find Marker 1 at the southeastern corner of the quarry rim, left of the ramp.
Put Rope, Knotted, 500 Length on your cursor and use /place Rope at Marker 1.
Find Marker 2 near the opposite side of the ramp and use /place Rope.
Confirm measurement: 240 knots.
Use /take Rope at Marker 1.
Use /take Rope at Marker 2.
Return to Tig with Tig's Survey Form and restored Rope, Knotted, 500 Length.
Details — Marker 1 & 2 commands, output, and warning
Marker 1: Southeastern corner of the quarry along the rim, left of the ramp in/out.
/place Rope
You tie one end of the rope to marker one.
The source notes that this changes the rope's temporary name to Knotted Rope Tied to Marker Two.
Marker 2: The source's first Marker 1→2 section calls this the southwestern corner near the ramp.
/place Rope
You tie the other end of the rope to the second marker.
You carefully count the number of knots between the first marker and second marker.
After a few moments you have counted a total of 240 knots, each marking a length. You quickly make a note of this upon the parchment.
/take Rope
You untie one end of the rope from the first marker.
/take Rope
You untie one end of the rope from the second marker.
Important: Before returning to Tig, the item should again be named Rope, Knotted, 500 Length. If you leave part of it attached, Tig refuses the turn-in.
Tig Pebblebank looks you over and scratches her head.
Tig Pebblebank says, “Where's the knotted rope? Did you know that you left some rope attached to a marker?”
Tig Pebblebank says, “You must untie the rope from the marker and bring it back with you.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “Go ahead. I'll be here when you return.”
Solo safety note from the wiki: If you zone after removing only one end because of aggro, you can return and remove the other end later; you do not have to restart. Placing/removing rope drops invisibility.

Measure the second quarry dimension. Current source value: 416.

Receive the survey form back from Tig.
Go to Marker 2 and use /place Rope.
Find Marker 3 at the northeastern corner, following the rim north toward Glass Flats.
Use /place Rope at Marker 3.
Confirm measurement: 416 knots.
Use /take Rope at Marker 2.
Use /take Rope at Marker 3.
Return the updated survey form and rope to Tig.
Details — exact Tig dialogue & commands
Tig Pebblebank looks over the survey and nods.
Tig Pebblebank says, “This is a good start. You just need one more measurement and we'll have what we need to figure out the area.”
Tig Pebblebank hands back the survey form.
Tig Pebblebank says, “Now, go back to marker two and get the length from marker two to marker three. Once you've written down the length, bring the survey back to me to check.”
Source inconsistency: In this later section, the wiki describes Marker 2 as the southeastern corner near the ramp, while the prior section describes Marker 2 as southwestern. This checklist preserves the source wording rather than silently choosing one.
/place Rope
You tie one end of the rope to marker two.
Marker 3: Northeastern corner of the quarry rim. Follow the rim north of the ramp toward the Glass Flats zone.
/place Rope
You tie the other end of the rope to the third marker.
You carefully count the number of knots between markers two and three.
After a few moments you have counted a total of 416 knots, each marking a length. You quickly make a note of this upon the parchment.
/take Rope
You untie one end of the rope from the second marker.
/take Rope
You untie one end of the rope from the third marker.

Measure quarry height for volume. Current source value: 42. This is the dangerous section.

Receive the survey form back from Tig.
Find Markers 4 and 5 north of the quarry center near the highest point.
At Marker 4, use /place Rope.
Reach Marker 5; account for the four nearby goblins.
At Marker 5, use /place Rope.
Confirm measurement: 42 knots.
Use /take Rope at Marker 4.
Use /take Rope at Marker 5.
Return both the updated survey form and rope to Tig.
Details — danger notes, dialogue & commands
Tig Pebblebank looks over the survey and smiles.
Tig Pebblebank says, “Great! You have the measurements needed for the area. Now, we need to get the measurement for the volume.”
Tig Pebblebank hands back the survey form.
Tig Pebblebank says, “Go find markers four and five and measure the distance between them. After you've written down the length, bring the survey back to me to look over.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “After this measurement, you won't need the rope anymore. Hand that in too when you're done.”
Markers 4 & 5: Just north of the middle of the quarry. Look for the highest point.
Marker 4: Usually approachable while invisible unless a cinder herald is roaming; the wiki warns its aggro radius is massive.
/place Rope
You tie one end of the rope to the fourth marker.
Marker 5: The path up can generally be traveled invisible and is usually free of KOS mobs. At the top are 4 goblins around the marker; they aggro when you place the rope. At level 15 they may be deep red. The wiki suggests training them around if necessary, remembering you must return to remove the rope.
/place Rope
You tie one end of the rope to the fifth marker.
You carefully count the number of knots between markers four and five.
After a few moments you have counted a total of 42 knots, each marking a length. You quickly make a note of this upon the parchment.
/take Rope
You untie one end of the rope from the fourth marker.
/take Rope
You untie one end of the rope from the fifth marker.

Formula from Advanced Surveying Volume I: A = L × W.

Return to Tig after the Marker 4→5 measurement.
Use Length 1 = 240 and Length 2 = 416.
Calculate 240 × 416 = 99,840.
Say “The surface area of the quarry is 99,840.”
Details — calculator, formula & exact dialogue
Tig Pebblebank says, “You have the lengths! Great! I hope it wasn't too difficult.”
Tig Pebblebank puts the knotted rope back into her field pack.
Tig Pebblebank says, “Now, all I need to do on my end is verify the form. The results are, honestly, as I expected.”
Tig Pebblebank writes something on the form and hands it back to you.
Tig Pebblebank says, “We're not done though. The surface area needs to be added to the form. Based on your measurements, I know what the area is... but do you?”
Tig Pebblebank says, “Consider this a test of your skill, apprentice. Think carefully about the answer and take your time to get it right. Once you've got it, tell me your answer.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “Or, if you just want to be done with the survey, you can hand me the form and go.”
Formula: A = L × W = Length 1 × Length 2
Length 1
Length 2
Surface Area
99,840
/say The surface area of the quarry is 99,840.
Tig Pebblebank says, “Well done, that's correct!”
Tig Pebblebank says, “If you don't mind, I'll jot that down on your form.”
Tig Pebblebank snatches the form from your hand and quickly scribbles down the answer, then promptly returns it to you.
Tig Pebblebank says, “There, now you have the area of the quarry filled in.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “I must say, I'm impressed with your skill so far. Advanced surveying concepts don't come easily.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “I wonder... do you happen to know the last measurement, the volume of the quarry? Tell me, and we can finish this form properly.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “Once again, this is quite an advanced surveying technique. If it's too much for you, you can hand me the form and go. I'll understand.”

Formula from Advanced Surveying Volume I: V = L × W × H.

Use Length 1 = 240, Length 2 = 416, Length 3 = 42.
Calculate 240 × 416 × 42 = 4,193,280.
Say “The volume of the quarry is 4,193,280.”
Hand Tig the completed Tig's Survey Form.
Receive experience and The Measure Stick.
Receive faction gains with Congregation of Trem and Citizens of Night Harbor.
Details — calculator, exact /say, turn-in & rewards
Formula: V = L × W × H = Length 1 × Length 2 × Length 3
Length 1
Length 2
Length 3 / Height
Volume
4,193,280
/say The volume of the quarry is 4,193,280.
Tig Pebblebank says, “Trem's fortune favors you, my apprentice! That is correct!”
Tig Pebblebank says, “Hand me the survey. Let us put an end to this task.”
Hand Tig Pebblebank your completed Tig's Survey Form.
Tig Pebblebank takes the note from you and scribbles down a few more words.
Tig Pebblebank folds up the survey and tucks it gently into her robe, smiling.
Tig Pebblebank says, “This will be a great help to not only the Measure, but also to Trem's faithful.”
Tig Pebblebank says, “Please take this as thanks for your efforts. Rest well, knowing you've served a higher purpose this day. Trust in Trem.”
You gain experience!!
You receive The Measure Stick.
Faction standing with Congregation of Trem gets better.
